Every year, the School is very eventful and diverse. The program always includes: lectures; “slow readings” in Latin and Ancient Greek (translation practice); a film club; a literary club; excursions around Odessa and the region.

History and Purpose of the School
In 2012-2019, thanks to the efforts of Prof. O.O. Radzykhovska and her students Pavlo Maiboroda and Vladyslav Vodko, on base of Department of Ancient and Middle Ages of Odesa Mechnykov National University were organised Latin and Ancient Greek study groups. These groups were quite amateurish, as Pavlo Maiboroda and Vladyslav Vodko continued to study classical languages themselves. This helped a number of undergraduate and PhD students of the department to master the skills of working with sources. In 2015-2018 Vladyslav Vodko joined the School of Semitology and Hebrew Studies in Ostroh. This experience was used to organize our first School in 2019 in Odesa. Until now, we have met in Odesa and Oleksandria, Kirovohrad region, as well as online, attracting participants from different cities of Ukraine, Europe and USA.
OUR GOALS:
- Popularizing the history of antiquity.
- Also, popularization of special areas of historical science.
There are fewer and fewer specialized departments in Ukraine – that’s why the School.
- Expanding contacts for young scientists.
- Collaborative research.
One head is good, but two are better.
- Intensification of researches.
A research presentation always means a meeting with questions that lead to new research.
The question is the beginning of discovery.
- Professional realization. The school is an opportunity to test your courses in an informal environment.
Exotic interests are our business.
- Involvement of specialists from other fields.
Modern researches is interdisciplinary researches.
Our projects and achievements
The school’s participants have completed the first Ukrainian translation and commentary of Herodian’s “History of the Roman State after Marcus Aurelius”. The current work consists of translating and commenting on the collection of ancient anecdotes “Philogelos”.
